"WHEN YOU HEAR HOOFBEATS, THINK OF HORSES NOT ZEBRAS."
this phrase is taught in medical school to encourage people to look for the common cause, in order to avoid misdiagnosis. People living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes are medical zebras.
A (BRIEF) OVERVIEW OF EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROMES
Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) is a group of individual, but related connective tissue disorders. Although all 13 recognized types vary greatly, they are commonly identified with joint over-flexibility, skin hyper-extensibility or delicacy, and tissue fragility.
The three main types of EDS include Vascular Ehlers-Danlos (vEDS), Classical Ehlers-Danlos (cEDS), and Hypermobile EDS (hEDS).
LIVING WITH EDS AND ASSOCIATED CONDITIONS
NO TWO PEOPLE WITH EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROMES HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS, EXPERIENCES, OR SOLUTIONS.
oftentimes, people with EDS undergo extensive care to manage symptoms. however, care strategies vary drastically for every individual.
